Don’t Forget to Spring Clean your Makeup Bag! Tips on how to transition your makeup routine!

By: Canvas Makeup Academy

After a long winter, spring has finally arrived! I can hear the birds chirping as I type. Well not exactly, weather wise it may seem a bit dreary, however before you know it, you will begin to see the seasons transition. The days will become longer, flowers will start to blossom, and trees will begin to regrow their leaves. With the anticipation of the beauty that naturally occurs during spring, it is only right that we transition our beauty routine as well. Often times when we think of the change of season we think of updating our wardrobe and we never put an emphasizes on our makeup routine. I’m going to share a couple of ways to easily transition your makeup routine from winter to spring.

But first, let’s start with a bit of spring cleaning, I’m not referring to your home, let’s dive deep into our makeup bags, kits or vanities. You want to discard anything that has been sitting in your makeup bag for way to long. If your makeup doesn’t have an expiration date, here are some signs to lookout for:

🌸 The consistency or color of the makeup is no longer the same

🌸 It has a rancid odor

🌸 Any used mascara that has been sitting longer than 2 months

🌸 Any products that have a white film on it

🌸 Skincare, Spf’s, and foundation usually will have a expiration date on it, be

sure to toss or recycle when it has expired

A lot of companies offer recycling programs be sure to inquire before you discard any products.

Once you have made room, you may have to restock. And now is the perfect time to transition from darker eye shadows and go for more softer pastel colors. Have a little fun and try brighter eyeliner colors like a vibrant blue, green, or purple as an alternative to your standard black and brown eyeliners.

It’s time to ditch the darker shades of lipsticks and blush and opt for pops of color on the cheeks and lips. Corals and rosy tones are perfect for spring an can easily transition into summer colors. A great way to transition your lipsticks is to mix a lip color with a clear gloss. This will give your winter shades a softer and shiner appearance. My favorite clear glosses to mix with any lip-color are: Fenty Beauty Gloss bomb, Maybelline Lifter Gloss, and MAC Clear Lipglass.

Skin should have a radiant glow, it doesn’t matter if you are receiving that glow from your skincare or you created the glow by using hydrating makeup products and a highlighter. You should opt for a lightweight foundation, you want your skin to breathe and your natural skin to show through your foundation. To achieve a more radiant look you can mix your current foundation with a moisturizer and create a lightweight version of your foundation. If you are in need of a new foundation a tinted moisturizers or light to medium coverage foundation will assist in achieving that look. Some of my favorite tinted moisturizers and foundations are:

🌸 Laura Mercier Skin Perfector,

🌸 Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

🌸 Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint

🌸 Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation

🌸 Nars Sheer Glow foundation

Needless to say you can make small adjustments to prepare for the spring, you do not have to splurge or break the bank on a spring makeup haul. With a little spring cleaning you may discover colors you haven’t used in a while. By mixing and matching you can create a soft palette that will get you through the season, without breaking your budget.
